Caitlin peed on the potty!!!

YAY CAITLIN!!!

Ben demonstrated potty usage for her and within minutes she had her own pee on the potty. Such a clever girl.

I've been planning to start Caitlin with the potty soon, so I guess now is as good a time as any. Time to get the rugs off the floor!

Niagara Falls

After our trip to the cottage we took the kids camping for a few nights in Niagara Falls. We spent a day at Marineland and another day at The Falls. Both kids had fun and Ben did something he hasn't done in at least a year -- napped! Each day following our outing he crashed in the car on the drive back to the site.

Here are some pics from that trip.

The cottage

Nic took a couple of weeks off work during which time we spent a few nights up at the cottage. The kids had a wonderful time. They loved going for walks, picking berries, and playing in the water. Sound sleep followed each night.

Potty training is looming

Caitlin has recently started telling us when she's pooped, so yay for her! Big milestone. So, we have the potties out and let her sit on them occassionally. No action yet. I have a feeling that Caitlin will be more of a challenge to train than Ben (who was pretty easy), though, because generally speaking she can be very strong-willed when it comes to something she wants/doesn't want, likes/dislikes (a trait that is likely to serve her well in life!). We shall see!

Empathy at a tender age

The other day Ben, Caitlin, and I were driving in the car. Somehow Ben and I got on the topic of babies and where they come from. It's come up before, but he was much more curious this time and asking more direct questions. Eventually we got to this...

Ben: How does the baby get out? Through a hole in in the tummy?
Me [being as honest as I can without too much detail]: Sometimes, yes, but usually the baby comes out through the vagina.
Ben: [silent and thinking]
Me [assuming he's wondering how on earth that works]: And it hurts, because a baby's big, and well, a vagina's small, but women's bodies are designed to do this, so it doesn't hurt for long.
Ben [a little more silence, then]: I wouldn't like that if I was a woman.

I think Ben's watching too much TV

This morning Ben was eager to get playing and was bugging Nic to play a game with him. Nic was still drinking his morning coffee on the deck and said 'Well, I'd like to finish my coffee first. Why don't you sit next to me and we'll chat?' So Ben does, and Nic starts talking about what we've done this weekend so far and tells Ben that he'll be taking a couple of weeks off work this month and what we'll do while Nic's off work. Finally Ben sighs and says 'Can we skip the commercial and just get to the game?'
