Week 28: Andi's being induced on Oct 10th!

My friend Andi is being induced on October 10th, approximately 2 weeks before her estimated due date. I'm so excited! She'll have the baby at the same hospital that I will; just down the road from my house. Nic and I will spend some time at the hospital with Andi, Vinny, and the rest of their family that day. We're all so excited to meet little Cooper James! And I keep thinking about how they know the sex of their baby, named their baby, and now know when he'll arrive! It's a bit like waiting for a long, lost relative!

Oh, and Andi's mom (Grandma Carol) knitted the cutest little sweater and bonnet for Ben. I'm at work so I'll have to take a photo later and post it.

Week 27: Getting started on the nursery

I left work early yesterday and drove down to Yorkdale Mall in Toronto for a bit of shopping at Pottery Barn Kids. I ditched my celestial nursery theme and opted for a more colourful barnyard theme. I walked out $350 poorer, but am happy that we finally have a start on the nursery. Yay!

Here's the quilt:

And here's the matching sheets:

These are the photos from Pottery Barn's website. I'll take some of my own once we get the nursery set up. The colours are actually much more vivid than they appear in these photos (at least on my laptop.)

Also, what you don't see on the quilt are apple trees with bright red apples, so I'll be using bright red as the accent colour and green on the walls.

In addition to the quilt and sheet set I also bought the crib skirt, which is SO cute, and red corderoy panel curtains. Unfortunately I didn't pay attention to the dimensions of the curtains, so they're not long enough. They were on sale, however, ($8/panel) so I'm just going to use the fabric to make decorative throw pillows for the nursery.

Today Nic is emptying out the room (soon-to-be-nursery) and we're getting an estimate done on new carpeting. I'm going to buy the paint today, or at least, select the colours. Nic's off work next week so he's planning to strip the wallpaper border, remove shelving, fill holes, prime and paint the walls, remove the old carpet and install the new, and finally, set up the crib and change table. A lot of work, but I'm sure he'll do a great job! Besides, he got to drink beer all summer, so the fact that I'm exempt from this work is only fair, right? :)

Week 26: Had our 3D ultrasound today!

It was really pretty cool even though the software technology is still primative. We got a lot of shots of our little boy (that's right! confirmed little boy! little Ben!) and a DVD of the entire session.

Afterwards we stopped by Granny and Granddad Bloomfield's for lunch and we all watched the DVD. Granny Bloomfield gave me Ben's first gift: a lovely crocheted yellow blanket. So nice!!

And finally, I'm starting to look rather pregnant these days. I had a bit of an "a-ha!" moment last night when I noticed how big my belly's getting!

Nic snapped this pic of me this afternoon. I'll be exactly 26 weeks tomorrow and right now we have 99 days to go until my due date arrives. It would be nice to have Ben in time for Christmas, but I have a funny feeling he won't make an appearance until January.

Ben's been kicking a lot stronger lately. I can see my belly jiggle now when he gives me a good boot. It was quite funny to see his little legs at work during the ultrasound!

Week 25: Went to a prenatal class with Andi.

Since Vinny's away Andi invited me along to her first prenatal class. A bit of a sneak preview for me since Nic and I won't start our classes until October 7th. Not a whole lot of new information but I must admit I was horrified by the detailed, un-censored birth video we watched... not to mention the woman had a mullet!

And I'm not going to warn Nic either! hee hee!!

Week 25: Mighty kicks!

The baby is definitely getting stronger all the time. You can actually see my belly move now when the baby kicks - this has probably been happening for a few weeks now, but is more common lately.

I can hardly believe I'll be in the third trimester in two and a half weeks!

And Andi and Vinny will have a baby in 5 - 6 weeks time! Wow!

Week 24: Went for a massage - highly recommended!

I was sitting at work Thursday morning after another horrible night's sleep (getting comfortable is a difficult task these days) with an achy back when it suddenly occurred to me "Hey! I don't really need to be here." so I booked the rest of the day, plus Friday off and scheduled a prenatal massage.

The massage was heavenly. The massage therapist had a prenatal pillow which meant I was able to lay on my belly for the first time in ages... what a dream. I will never take sleeping on my belly for granted ever again! In fact, the best part of the whole experience was just lying on my belly! The little beany boy was quite active, however, and I couldn't help wondering if I was squishing him just a bit.
