Captured a smile :)

Ben woke up happy from his nap this morning. Until he realised he was hungry!

Ben is two months old today!

Sometimes it seems we just got home from the hospital and other days it seems as if a lifetime has passed. I have learned so much from wee Ben in such a short time.

And Ben is smiling a lot more (I really need to capture a pic of his adorable grin) and I can prompt smiles by tickling his lips.

He's almost out of his 0-3 month clothing (some he's outgrown already.)

Ben is also very good at entertaining himself. This morning I put him in his play dome and was able to shower and get dressed, make the bed, brush my teeth and hair, and tidy his room a little... Ben just happily played.

Ben is more vocal and chatty. We almost seem to chat sometimes because he'll respond to my conversation with gurgles. It's cute.

Anyway, I had hoped to post some pics but we were out and about most of the day so Ben's having his nap now. Maybe I can get one at bedtime.

Ben is 8 weeks old today!

Wee Ben is eight weeks old today. He had an appointment with the paediatrician this morning regarding the potential heart murmur, but when she had a listen she said she couldn't detect any murmur at all. Good news! She does want us to come back in two weeks for another listen, but it looks pretty good.

Both the paediatrician and her nurse seperately commented on what a healthy looking baby Ben is. He is now in the 75th percentile for weight and height (Ben was in the 50th percentile when he was born, although I have a hard time believing 50% of all newborns weigh more than 8 lbs 6 oz. Kudos to their moms!)

Poor Ben has a touch of the flu though. Poor thing. He vomited last night all over himself, his blankets, and me, and I think today he might be getting a bit of diarrhea. Seems the flu's been going around since Nic has been sick, plus Vinny and Cooper too. Fortunately Ben has been eating, although smaller amounts more frequently than usual. And he hasn't vomited since last night. Hopefully this passes quickly.

Oh, and I have a cold. We're a sick bunch around here.

I didn't take any pictures of Ben today since he's a bit under the weather, but here's a photo of him in his bouncy chair last week. He doesn't look very impressed with it.

6 weeks old today!

Ben is six weeks old today and has made a lot of progress. He's learned to grasp. He holds my fingers, my hair (fun), and the railings on the change table. And he's awake for 1 to 1.5 hours at a time. He's also showing more interest in his toys.

Ben is learning to fall asleep on his own. At night he goes to bed without fuss and falls asleep easily. Naptimes are a bit more challenging, but today he fell asleep on his own for a nap for the first time. Yay!

Doctor's appointment yesterday

Ben had another doctor's appointment yesterday. Seems our little man is developing well and following his growth curves. Ben is now weighing 11.3 lbs, measuring 22 inches in length, and his head circumference has increased by 2.3 cm since his previous appointment two weeks ago. Our GP is very happy with his progress.

Ben's eyes and ears are also responding well. Again, our GP is very happy with that.

When the GP listened to Ben's heart, however, he detected a murmur and is referring us to a paediatrician for a second opinion. We'll find out on Tuesday when our appointment will be. I was quite worried at first (well, okay, still worried) but after reading that childhood murmurs are common (apparently 80% of all children have a murmur at some point that they eventually outgrow) I'm feeling a little less stressed out about it. Also, out GP says that most often the paediatrician determines the murmur to be an "innocent" murmur and that rarely is it necessary to be referred to a cardiologist. Better to be safe than sorry.

I'll update when I find out when our appointment is. Soon, I hope.
