Week 18: It's a BOY!!!

We had an ultrasound today and found out that our little one is a BOY!! How exciting! Most importantly he appears to be a healthy boy. And active! The ultrasonographer kept saying "He's a fiesty one!" and "Oh! What a wild one!" He really gave her a run for her money as she tried to get shots from all necessary angles.

After the initial exam the ultrasonographer invited Nic in so we could both view the monitor and see our little guy - this is when she announced, with a high degree of confidence, that we have a boy. She then went through and pointed out the eyes, nose, and mouth, as well as the beating heart, stomach and bladder. Both the stomach and bladder contained small amounts of liquid which according to her indicates that these systems are functioning. Also, since our little guy is so active it indicates no spinal problems, which is a huge relief. His arms and legs were moving like crazy!

Needless to say we're both very happy and relieved to know our baby is healthy. I'll receive the full ultrasound report from my doctor next Tuesday.

Week 18: Allergies and more

Ugh! My allergies have really been getting the better of me lately. It doesn't help that I'm allergic to our cats and dog, and the allergies only seem to be getting worse. I've read that with pregnancy one's allergy symptoms may be reduced... yeah, must be nice to be so lucky!! I can't wait to be through the summer and into the fall... my allergies aren't quite so bad during the cooler seasons. So far it's been a pretty hot summer with temperatures regularly in the mid 30s (C).

Right now we're really looking forward to our prenatal appointment on Wednesday and our ultrasound on Thursday. I'm so excited to see the baby!

I've been feeling pretty well lately, and I think my energy levels are slowly getting back to normal.

I'm still not really looking pregnant, but I suspect somewhere between weeks 20 and 22 I'll begin to look pregnant instead of like someone who's had more than her share of cookies.

The baby continues to move. I don't feel movement everyday, but usually when I'm sitting or lying still I will feel a little something. Sometimes I think I feel something and can't be sure, but once in a while there is no doubt in my mind that this little munchkin is doing somersaults!

It's been a busy day around the house. Nic finished painting the kitchen today and we've had new floors installed over the last while, so today we worked to get the house back to some state of normalcy.

We're also getting a new dining room set in September. It's on order. It will seat 10, which is perfect, because it looks like we'll be having the family to our place this Christmas. Since my due date is the 28th it remains to be seen if we'll have one more person for Christmas this year!

Week 16: Catching up

It's been a while! Not a lot has changed, although I am feeling a bit better. The nausea seems to have subsided but I'm still pretty tired. We're trying to get the the puppy sleeping in her crate again (for the last couple of months she's been sleeping in bed with us and causing my allergies to act up, not to mention the jumping on my head at 6am). Anyway, she cried a bit last night, and naturally I felt bad, so I didn't sleep well. Once we know she won't have accidents we'll let her have run of the bedroom, but either way she'll have to get used to sleeping on the floor before the baby arrives.

I've graduated to maternity clothes, although I don't think I look very pregnant and I'm sure people just think I'm getting fat. I can still wear most of my pre-pregnancy tops, but I *need* to wear maternity pants.

Nic finally heard the baby's heartbeat at our last prenatal appointment. He made a lot of faces while he was listening so I started laughing... and practically blew his poor ear drums out!!

Now we're looking forward to our next ultrasound on July 28th where we may find out if our little "wingnut" (as Nic calls it) is a boy or a girl... or just uncooperative!
